Ryan Rogers Memorial Basketball Courts Falmouth, Maine
Shortly after Ryan went home to be with The Lord, his family petitioned The Falmouth Town Council to consider naming the basketball courts at Huston Park in Falmouth The Ryan Rogers Memorial Basketball Courts. Ry spent countless hours playing on those courts throughout his high school years and his experiences there were marked by two themes.
First, he was a gifted basketball player and he established himself as somewhat of a local legend on those courts. Second, and much more defining in his life, he was always the one organizing the games and drawing people together. It was this magnetic gift and in this pure spirit of community that the council voted unanimously to name the courts after Ry.
Shortly after the naming, NewsCenter 6 picked up on the story and did a feature on his life and his legacy. In addition, Falmouth Youth Basketball Association (FYBA) threw its immediate support behind the dedication and soon launched a GoFundMe page to raise funds to rehabilitate the courts.
In a fitting testament to Ry’s indomitable spirit and ability to draw people together, over 260 donors flooded the page to raise over $54,000. The first phase of renovations took place in the fall of 2021 with six beautiful new hoops, new fencing, and a sign dedicating the courts in Ry’s name.
The second phase in 2022 saw the total resurfacing and painting of the courts. In June of 2022, the 1st annual Ryan Rogers 3v3 Basketball Tournament for boys and girls from grades 3 through 8 was held. Although inclement weather forced the event indoors to the Falmouth Middle School, the event was wonderfully received. Pictures are posted here.
